Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan on Thursday expressed dismay at the way the government evicted his family from their Janpath bungalow, noting that they have not been given any alternative official accommodation, which they deserve. Later talking to reporters, Chirag Paswan said that he respects the rules and the legal process and never demanded that his family be allowed to stay at home permanently. “We had to vacate it sooner or later. However, I have little objection to the way it has been done,” he said. The ministerial bungalow was allotted in 1990 to his father, a veteran Dalit leader, who had been a minister for a long period until his death in 2020.
Chirag Paswan said that his family has been living there since the extension of service. “My family fully respects the legal process. One cannot forcibly keep a place if he/she does not deserve it. Certainly, I am disappointed with the way it (evicted). I am a second time MP, And I have been given an alternative accommodation,” the Jamui MP said.
He said that he does not have any government accommodation as of now and has shifted to his grandmother’s house in the national capital. Making an emotional note, he said that his father’s memories are attached to the bungalow and added that around 100 people associated with the LJP founder were living there. “I will do my best to help them,” he said, underlining again his frustration with the “sudden” eviction process.
The government on Wednesday began the process of eviction of the late Ram Vilas Paswan’s family from the 12 Janpath bungalow, which was allotted to them in 1990, after several trucks carrying furniture and other household items were seen leaving the residence. Officials had said that the Directorate of Estates, which comes under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, had sent a team of officials to execute the eviction order of the late minister’s son Chirag Paswan.
The 12 Janpath bungalow has been earmarked for Union ministers and those living in the government accommodation have been asked to vacate it.
