Telugu stars Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu are formally divorced. The Custody actor revealed that he and Samantha were divorced last year. The couple, who were married for almost four years, announced their separation in 2021 leaving their fans in shock. While the reason for their split is still unknown, Chaitanya admits that he and Samantha have moved on.
“Yes. It’s been more than two years since we separated and it’s been a year since we were formally divorced. The court granted us divorce. We’ve both moved on in our lives. For that stage of our lives I have a lot of respect,” he told The Times of India. Praising her, Chaitanya said, “She is a lovely person and deserves all the happiness.”
Samantha and Chaitanya were dating for a few years before tying the knot in 2017. However, speculations of their separation started after Samantha removed Chaitanya’s family name ‘Akkineni’ from her social media handles. After increasing speculations and rumours, Chaitanya and Samantha issued a joint statement confirming the split.
“To all our well wishers. After much deliberation and consideration, Sam and I have decided to separate as husband and wife to go our separate ways. We are fortunate to have had a friendship of over a decade, which was the core of our relationship, which we believe will always create a special bond between us.’
Speaking with Karan Johar on Koffee With Karan 7 last year, Samantha referred to Chaitanya as her ‘ex-husband’ and said that the split was not amicable. Talking about the split, Samantha said on the show, “It’s been tough. But it’s good now. It’s okay. I’m stronger than ever.” Karan asks her if she has any hard feelings. The actress replied, “Are there hard feelings like if you put the two of us in a room, you have to hide sharp objects? Yes, from now on yes.” “So it’s not an amicable situation right now,” KJo informed her. “Not now, but maybe sometime in the future, yes,” he replied.
