Nadda to visit West Bengal amid ‘increasing threat of TMC’, to address new state executive

With the West Bengal BJP under heavy pressure from the ruling Trinamool Congress, party’s national president JP Nadda is scheduled to visit the state on January 9 to address the newly formed state executive. The purpose of his visit is to boost the morale of BJP workers and suppress internal rebellion.

Also, Nadda’s visit comes amid growing unrest among BJP MPs as some are upset over the appointment of a new district president and others for lack of proper representation or responsibilities.

The BJP claims that it faced threats, assaults and other threats during the Kolkata civic polls. Senior party leaders recently took to Twitter to condemn the alleged acts of violence against their candidates during the KMC elections.

Senior leaders are hoping that Nadda will address their grievances, and are looking for reassurance and attention is being paid to other issues, especially those that have forced some of his colleagues to dissent.

Sources said it is unlikely that he will speak at length on the issue of dissent in the 107-member gathering.

Earlier, BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh had gone to Bengal to address the state executive. While many expected him to address organizational issues, Santosh spoke primarily of the ideology and the need for patience and restraint in the wake of the alleged violent backlash by the TMC.

He also announced that people above the age of 35 years would be eligible to become members of the youth wing and that no district president should be more than 45 years of age, a norm in the central unit as well.

A senior state leader quoted Santosh as saying, “Democracy does not accept extremes. It follows a middle ground. We are not here just to counter TMC, it is a political challenge, but other When you go to that extreme, it is not good. Like he did a lot in Tripura and people threw him out.”

Sources said that Santosh also asked him to be patient and nationalist and not for the right wing or any other wing.

However, many leaders believe that the transition from BJP to TMC is almost over and many will not leave the party despite differences.

“We have been told that responsibility will be given to everyone and no one will be left unattended. Let us see what Nadda ji tells us,” said a senior party leader.
