Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav addresses press conference in Kannauj

Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and termed the income tax raids on properties belonging to party MLC Pushpraj Jain as “politically motivated”. Addressing the media in Kannauj, he alleged that the BJP wants to defame the Samajwadi Party ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

The former Chief Minister of UP said that the BJP is disappointed because the person (Piyush Jian) they wanted to capture turned out to be their man.

“BJP is trying to vitiate the name of SP. Those spreading the smell of hatred will not like the scent of perfume. First they raided their own man’s house by mistake and now to hide that they are using SP leaders. Raids are being conducted on the residences.” SP chief told reporters.

Earlier this morning, the Income Tax Department raided 50 premises of Samajwadi Party MLC Pushpraj Jain (Pammi Jain), who runs the business of perfumery compounds in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, and Babu Mian, another businessman. Babu Mian also does perfume business and lives in Kannauj. A team of Mumbai Income Tax Department is conducting raids.

The names of Pammi Jain and Babu Mian surfaced during the raids on the premises of Piyush Jain, who was arrested by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) from Kannauj.

The raids come days after a tax raid on Uttar Pradesh-based businessman Piyush Jain, which unearthed piles of cash and gold.
