Mumbai: Cash van driver runs away with Rs 2.8 crore | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The driver of a cash-loading van is on the run with Rs 2.8 crore in cash that was supposed to be loaded into various ATMs on Monday. The incident took place at Goregaon West and police are looking for him.
Udaybhan Singh, the 34-year-old driver, worked for a cash management agency for the past two months. Between 12pm and 1pm on Monday, he had steered the cash van to a public sector bank near a Goregaon (W) college. His co-workers were seated in the van. On reaching the bank, they got off to fill the machine with currency notes. But when they got back from the job, the driver and the van had both vanished.
“The staff called up Singh but he wouldn’t answer. They tracked down the location of the van through GPS coordinates. It was at Piramal Nagar at Goregaon and had appeared to have halted,” said a police officer.
The staff alerted their superiors at the cash management agency and the Goregaon police was also informed. A police team went to Piramal Nagar where they found the abandoned cash van. A sum of Rs 2.8 crore was missing.
Police have now formed three teams to trace Singh. His phone records are being scrutinised and footage from cameras in the vicinity is being examined, officers said.
