Excerpts from the interview:

From Nashik to Cannes, it is quite a creative journey that you have mapped out for yourself. How does it feel celebrating your craft and most importantly Mrunal at the 76th Cannes Film Festival?

The journey from Nashik to Cannes felt like a wonderful journey to begin with. And I am lucky that I got a chance to live this dream. It felt amazing to represent India and thanks to Gray Goose for doing this with Falguni and Shane Peacock. It’s great to be on this global platform celebrating cinema and fashion. I am happy that I can wear trendy Indian wear along with fashion on the red carpet. I loved experimenting with a hooded couture look at Cannes this year, with an impeccable homage to Indian craft by Anamika Khanna.

You made your red carpet debut this year, when you heard you’d be walking the iconic red stairs at Cannes, what was the first feeling or expression in your head?

Yes, the collaboration was a huge success for me. Attending the Cannes Film Festival and walking the red carpet as an actor should be on every girl’s to-do list. I wanted it to be a memorable moment and I am glad that I got to work with the best.

For the red carpet look, Mrunal Thakur wore a fitted ivory gown, which featured cutouts and delicate frills, designed by Falguni Shane Peacock. Which added a touch of modernity. The gown also featured a waist cape that fell elegantly above the waist and a train with feathers that added a dramatic effect to her overall look.

You walked the red carpet wearing Falguni Shane Peacock. What did you love about the dress, the designers and the collaboration?

I wanted my look to be versatile. I wanted it to truly represent Indian culture. Falguni and Shane [Peacock] Iconic Indian looks do, so I wanted the final red carpet to be something different. something that has never been done before. My experience working with Gray Goose has been wonderful. They have been such great allies. The whole thought process was his ideology Vive le Voyage which means to celebrate the journey. The idea was to celebrate films, fashion and me. So I am thankful for this association and looking forward to many more.

Your style and acting skills have garnered a lot of love over the years, anything from this experience that you took back with you and will always cherish in your heart?

The energy and enthusiasm that I got to see at the festival is something that I will cherish the most. What I looked forward to when I came back was to take in all the amazing conversations with the filmmakers that I had the chance to meet and talk to. To understand the inspiration behind his craft, his films. One thing I will always remember is the love for cinema that this festival celebrates. when I came back [to Mumbai] And back to shooting I had this new drive and urge to learn more, perform better and I want to be a part of cinema that affects and reaches out to a global audience.

Every year, India is celebrated at Cannes through films, celebrity red carpet moments etc. What according to you makes India special at Cannes?

It is really lovely to see a festival celebrating India and Indian films. What made this year special was Shivendra, whom I worked with [Singh Dungarpur] Sir who restored the Manipuri film, Ishanau, which was selected in the classic section of Cannes. It was lovely to see him and catch up with him. I am glad that I got a chance to meet the team of this wonderful film. And I look forward to seeing these films including Agra and Kennedy. I was there [at Cannes] For a while, but I look forward to watching these movies very soon.
