Mother Dairy has increased the price of liquid milk by Rs. 2

New Delhi: Adding to the rising fuel and food costs, Mother Dairy announced that milk will become costlier by Rs. 2. This news comes after Amul had announced a similar hike in the month. The new prices will be applicable from Sunday.

Milk prices were last revised in December 2019.

Mother Dairy justified the price hike, saying dairy farmers have increased the price of milk by 8-10% in the last one year, besides other operational costs of processing, packaging and logistics.

Mother Dairy said it is “forced to hike the prices of its liquid milk by Rs 2 per liter in Delhi NCR with effect from July 11, 2021”, a PTI report said.

Mother Dairy milk is available in more than 100 cities across the country. It said that with effect from July 11, prices are being revised in key markets including East and Central Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Nagpur and Kolkata to Rs 2 per liter over the current MRP in the respective markets. It sells around 30 lakh liters of milk per day in Delhi-NCR, while the total sales are 35 lakh liters per day.

“The company is facing inflationary pressures on the overall input cost, which has increased manifold in the last one year, as well as the milk production crisis due to the ongoing pandemic,” Mother Dairy said in its statement.

“It is pertinent to note that in the last 3-4 weeks alone the agricultural prices of milk have increased by about 4 per cent. Despite paying higher prices for the purchase of milk in the last one year, the consumer prices remained intact. After this revision, the milk prices are being revised by 4 per cent,” Mother Dairy said.

Mother Dairy highlighted that it spends about 75-80 per cent of its milk sales on milk procurement. The company said that it has always strived to strike the right balance between the consumers and the milk producers.

“The burden of increase in agricultural prices is partly being passed on to the consumers, thereby protecting the interests of both the stakeholders,” it added.

Revised Price:

As per the revised prices, bulk vendored milk (token milk) will be sold at Rs 44 per liter from Sunday as against the current price of Rs 42 per litre. Full cream milk (poly pack) will now be increased from Rs 55 per liter to Rs 57 per litre. The price of toned milk has been increased from Rs 45 per liter to Rs 47, while the price of double toned milk (live light) has been increased from Rs 39 per liter to Rs 41. From Sunday, the price of cow’s milk will be Rs 49 per liter from Rs 47 per liter at present. The prices of half liter milk pouches have been hiked by Re 1, which means an effective hike of Rs 2 per litre.
