Monsoon wreaks havoc in Gujarat, southern states, death toll

Monsoon is wreaking havoc in many states of the country. Since the beginning of the monsoon season, more than 400 people have died across the country.

In Gujarat, there is no immediate respite as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted “heavy to very heavy rainfall” at some places over south Gujarat and Saurashtra on Saturday. The villagers were stranded in Navsari for several days. 80 people have died in Gujarat and an alert has been issued in eight districts.

In Maharashtra too, the death toll has risen to 102 and another 11,000 people have been shifted to safer places.

Heavy rains are also continuing in Odisha, Telangana, Uttarakhand and Assam.
