Amid heavy rains, floods and landslides in Kerala, there was a happy development of a couple – both health workers – bravely on the flooded streets and arrived at their wedding hall in a large aluminum cooking vessel to get married on Monday.

He traveled about 500 meters on a traditional copper cooking pot for his wedding held at a local temple at Thakazhi near Alappuzha. Both the bride and groom are health workers working in a hospital in Chengannur.

The couple was joined by a very limited number of relatives while entering into the marriage ceremony in a flooded hall at Thalawadi, adjacent to the nearby temple, where they were initially supposed to marry and which was also filled with water.

The couple – Akash and Aishwarya – were seen traveling in a cooking pot.

After their wedding, the couple told reporters – who were covering the rising water level in the district and rushed to the hall after hearing about the wedding – that they had kept invitees to a minimum due to COVID.

He also said that since he had scheduled the wedding on Monday, he decided to go ahead with it as it was an auspicious event and did not want to delay it further.

An excited Rahul said, “We were not afraid to travel in the ship, while Aishwarya said, “We are all happy that the wedding took place at a well-planned time.”

He said that when he reached the temple a few days ago, there was no water, but it was filled with water after heavy rains for the last two days.

A relative who organized the ‘Pota’ yatra said, “Some areas near the temple were almost submerged but we managed to get both the bride and groom on time.”

As the state received torrential rains on Friday afternoon that partly continued till Sunday, the Kuttanad region of Alappuzha was submerged due to heavy rains, completely submerging the roads in the area on Monday.
