Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt on Sunday asked the Army in Kashmir to be prepared to effectively meet the emerging security challenges. On Sunday, the last day of his two-day visit to the Kashmir Valley, Bhatt went to the forward post where local commanders briefed him about the overall situation along the Line of Control, an Army spokesman said.

Interacting with the soldiers, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the Indian Army, which is constantly battling the terror of Pakistan. The spokesperson said Bhatt emphasized the need to be prepared to effectively meet emerging security challenges.

The Minister also laid a wreath at the Chinar Corps War Memorial. The spokesperson said that on his arrival on Saturday, GOC Chinar Corps Lt Gen DP Pandey welcomed Bhatt and briefed him about the prevailing security situation and measures being taken to protect the border and hinterland from adversaries.

The minister was briefed about the Army’s efforts to identify and target Overground Workers (OGWs) who indulge in radicalization and recruit youth into terrorist ranks, he said. Efforts to stop local recruitment and facilitate the surrender of local militants were also discussed, the spokesman said.
