Maharashtra-Karnataka border row: CM Eknath Sinde to move resolution in assembly today

New Delhi: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is expected to move a resolution on the border dispute with Karnataka in the state assembly today (December 27). Shinde had on Monday (December 26) said that he would move a resolution in the state assembly on Tuesday expressing solidarity with those living in the disputed border area with Karnataka.

Shinde also hit out at his predecessor and Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leader Uddhav Thackeray, who criticized his visit to the national capital and demanded that Marathi-speaking areas of Karnataka be declared a union territory.

“We don’t need to take lessons from others. We stand firmly with those living in the border areas. We are moving a resolution to this effect in the assembly tomorrow (Tuesday),” Shinde told reporters.

Shinde, who was in Delhi to participate in the Veer Bal Diwas celebrations, came amid the issue of the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute in the ongoing winter session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday, with the opposition seeking a resolution on it. issue.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured the House that a resolution on the border dispute would be tabled in a day or two.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said, “We will fight even for an inch. We will do whatever we can for justice for the Marathi-speaking population in Karnataka.”

Notably, the Karnataka Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution mooted by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on the border row to protect the interests of the southern state. The BJP is in power in Karnataka as well as Maharashtra, where it is in alliance with the Shinde-led faction of the Shiv Sena.
After attending the Veer Bal Diwas function, Chief Minister Shinde met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at his residence.

Responding to Thackeray’s criticism, Shinde claimed that the previous MVA government had stopped some government schemes in villages along Maharashtra’s border with Karnataka.

The Chief Minister also said that Thackeray should understand the purpose of his visit to Delhi before passing any judgement.

“I am here to participate in the Veer Bal Diwas celebrations organized by the central government to commemorate the sacrifice of Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, sons of Guru Gobind Singh,” Shinde said. He said that the chief ministers of Maharashtra and Punjab were special invitees.

Shinde said the border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka is before the Supreme Court.
“For the first time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had intervened and directed the Chief Ministers of both the states to ensure that there is no law and order issue at the border.

“We are taking care. Karnataka should also take care to ensure that no law and order situation arises in the border area,” Shinde said.
