The crash detection feature of the iPhone 14 is troubling emergency services.

Skiers’ Apple devices in the US state sent automatic crash alerts to dispatchers at the Summit County 911 center, overloading emergency services.

The tech giant is still sending false alarms from skiers due to Apple’s iPhone 14 smartphones and Apple Watch crash detection feature, which is built into the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and new Apple Watch models, putting a strain on emergency resources .

As AppleInsider reports, skiers’ Apple devices in the US state sent automated crash alerts to dispatchers at the Summit County 911 center.

None of them involved emergencies, but they were time consuming to handle and ski patrollers were required to go to the location of an automated call if the skier did not respond to the dispatcher’s call.

“We are not in the practice of disregarding calls,” said Trina Dummer, interim director of the Summit County 911 Center.

“These calls involve a tremendous amount of resources, from dispatchers to deputies to ski patrollers. And I don’t think we’ve ever had a true emergency,” Dummer said.

Earlier this month, Summit County dispatchers in the US state saw an increase in accidental emergency calls from skiers due to the facility.
