Earlier in Mumbai, a fire broke out in Level-4 in a multi-storey residential building near Lalbagh area in South Mumbai’s Parel on Friday afternoon. 12 fire brigade teams are trying to douse the fire at the spot. The fire broke out in the Avighna Park Tower building on the 19th floor. At least one person is reported to have been killed in the incident.

Most of the residents, including several senior citizens and children, managed to evacuate themselves.

BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal reached the spot and ordered an inquiry into the incident. He said that the fire has been brought under control. Currently, the cooling work is going on.

Traffic on Curry Road Bridge has been halted due to the fire. Police have barricaded the area. Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has reached the spot.

Residents said that the cause of the fire, which is believed to be a temporary short-circuit, is under investigation and all fire safety measures have been taken in the building.
