Red lentils or masoor dal is a staple in many North Indian states. It is usually eaten with rice or even turned into a healthy snack item. You can eat lentils with or without skin in both types of lentils. Lentils are rich in iron, protein, fiber, vitamin C, B6, B2, folic acid, calcium, zinc and magnesium. Half a cup of masoor dal will give you about 9 grams of protein.
