According to officials, the air quality was better in 2019 as the monsoon lasted longer that year. In fact, a month before Diwali, Noida’s AQI was either ‘good’ or ‘satisfactory’. But later it turned into ‘bad’ and ‘very bad’ days.
In 2018, the average AQI a month before Diwali was 305 in Noida and 318 in Ghaziabad.
UPPCB officials said the pollution level is likely to rise. He appealed to the people to exercise caution. “We are asking residents’ welfare associations to provide electric heaters to the security staff so that they do not have to light a fire to keep themselves warm. Keep updating vehicle owner pollution papers. People should not throw garbage in the open. The in-charge of construction sites should follow the guidelines of the pollution control board,” said Utsav Sharma, regional officer of UPPCB.
