The Darbar Sahib is decorated with beautiful lights on the occasion of Diwali and Bandi Chhor Diwas. Its beauty has become so much that the entire Darbar Sahib will be able to see it with a single glance. After this beauty of Darbar Sahib it is called – Dal Roti Ghar Ki Diwali of Amritsar. Today, more than one and a half lakh people will bow their heads in Darbar Sahib. The evening scene will be even more beautiful, when Deepmala will be done around the entire lake.

Where Hindus all over India celebrate Diwali on the return of Shri Ram to Ayodhya, in the same way, in Sikhism, this day is celebrated as Bandi Chhor Diwas. The entire Darbar Sahib is decorated with colorful lights on this occasion. With this, the beauty of this temple made of gold increases manifold. For the devotees coming from the country and abroad on this day, the preparations start from the morning itself. Apart from lentils and roti in the langar, Kheer, Jalebi are also served to the devotees. There will be fireworks in the evening. Seeing the growing influence of Sikhism, Emperor Jahangir imprisoned the 6th Sikh Guru Hargobind Singh. He was imprisoned in the Gwalior Fort where 52 Hindu kings were already imprisoned. But incidentally when Jahangir imprisoned Shri Guru Hargobind Singh Ji, he fell very ill. He was not getting better even after many treatments. The Qazi advised him to leave Sri Guru Hargobind Singh ji. But Shri Hargobind Singh Ji refused to go alone and asked to release all the kings.

On his independence, the day of Diwali is also celebrated as Bandi Chhor Diwas.
