Land for Job Scam: CBI at Lalu Yadav’s Residence Day After Oppn’s Letter on ‘Misuse’ of Central Agencies

A day after top opposition leaders wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the alleged “misuse” of central agencies in the wake of the arrest of AAP leader Manish Sisodia in the Delhi Excise Policy scam case, a CBI team has reached Rabri Devi’s residence.

A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday reached the residence of Rabri Devi, wife of former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav, to interrogate her in the matter of giving land for a job.

A day after the top leaders of the opposition wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, the CBI team has reached Rabri Devi’s residence. Narendra Modi On the alleged “misuse” of central agencies in the wake of the arrest of AAP leader Manish Sisodia in the Delhi Excise Policy scam case.

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court had on February 27 issued summons against former Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi and 14 others in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam.

Special Judge Gitanjali Goel on Monday issued summons to the accused persons for March 15, taking cognizance of the charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Court said, “Having perused the charge sheet and documents and material on record, prima facie under Section 120B Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 IPC and Sections 8, 9, 11, 12, 13(2) PC Act, read with Section 13(1)(d) and the original offenses thereof, of 1988. Accordingly, cognizance of the said offenses is taken.

The CBI had in October last year filed a chargesheet against former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, her daughter Misa Bharti and 13 others in the land-for-jobs scam.

The charge sheet states that during investigation, it was found that the accused conspired with the then General Manager of Central Railway and CPO of Central Railway and appointed persons in their name or their close relatives in lieu of land.

The land was acquired at a price lower than the prevailing circle rate and much lower than the market rate. It was also alleged that the candidates used false TCs and submitted false attested documents to the Ministry of Railways, the CBI statement said.

The alleged scam took place between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Yadav was the railway minister. Apart from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief, the name of the then Railway General Manager is also included in the charge sheet.
