Check latest fuel rates in various cities on 6th March
Petrol and diesel prices in India vary from state to state due to different rates of local taxes and transportation costs.
India, like other countries around the world, is heavily dependent on fossil fuels to power its transportation sector. Petrol and diesel, the two most widely used fuels in the country, have remained at a stable price for more than the last 9 months. This stable pricing is due to price freezes implemented by Indian Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), which make these fuels impervious to exchange rates and supply and demand factors.
OMCs have chosen to keep prices stable to cover losses over the past few quarters. This was due to the energy crisis stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic as well as Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
The price revision continues till March 6, 2023. Petrol and diesel prices remain high in most parts of the country. Petrol in Delhi costs Rs 96.72 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 89.62 per litre. On the other hand, residents of Chennai will have to pay Rs 102.73 for a liter of petrol and Rs 94.33 for diesel.
Petrol prices in Mumbai topped the chart with Rs 106.31 per litre. Diesel closed at Rs 94.27 per liter in India’s financial capital. Petrol price in Kolkata is Rs 106.03 per liter while diesel price is Rs 92.76 per liter. Local taxes and transportation costs are responsible for the price disparity between cities.
