Kumail Nanjiani enlists his mother’s help at the Eternal World Premiere for Sherwani

Marvel’s next big film in the MCU is Eternal. The film stars an ensemble cast of Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumal Nanjiani and Kit Harington. The film, directed by Academy Award winner Chloe Zhao, had its world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday. The star cast of the film walked the red carpet in style, many of whom made fashion statements with their appearances.

Nanjiani’s traditional outfit grabbed everyone’s attention for the world premiere of Eternal. The 43-year-old Pakistani-American actor arrived at the big event in a purple and gold sherwani, which he chose with the help of his mother.

“I wanted to wear a sherwani because they look great and my outfit in the film always reminds me of a sherwani. And I wanted to use a designer in Pakistan, not just a Pakistani designer in the US. So I called my mom, she gave me the names of three amazing designers in Pakistan,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Nanjiani and her stylist Jean Yang then joined the Karachi-based Designer House of Omar Saeed. The 43-year-old wanted her premiere outfit to match the on-screen look of her character in Eternals. In the film, Nanjiani plays Kingo, a cosmic-energy-powered superhero who assumes the identity of a Bollywood star.

The actor said that he wants the colors of his sherwani to be similar to his costume in Eternal, adding that purple and gold is a beautiful combination. Nanjiani paired the sherwani with Christian Louboutin shoes and a Patek Philippe watch.

Meanwhile, early reviews from Eternals after the world premiere have described the film as completely different from the usual Marvel outing. Eric Davis of Fandango, a movie ticket-selling company, called Eternal “brilliantly weird” and “honestly refreshing”. He said that there is a lot to eat at Eternal, but Chloe Zhao did a good job of balancing it.

The film, the 25th in the MCU, will release worldwide on November 5.
