KL Rahul appointed as India’s vice-captain for South Africa Test series

India’s opener in Test matches, KL Rahul, has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Test team during their tour of South Africa. KL Rahul has been roped in in the absence of Rohit Sharma who is ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury.

“The All India Senior Selection Committee has named KL Rahul as the vice-captain for the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa,” BCCI said in a statement on Saturday.

KL Rahul has been in excellent form of late and is also confident of skipper Virat Kohli, thus, getting work ahead of Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and others.

KL Rahul will also be the vice-captain of the Indian team for the upcoming ODIs against South Africa. The Karnataka batsman has been the captain of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the past two years and is one of the main contenders to lead the new Lucknow franchise next year.

According to the schedule, the first match of the three-match Test series between India and South Africa will be played at Centurion from December 26. The second match will be played from January 3 in Johannesburg and the third and final match will be played here. Cape Town from 11 January
