The federal probe agency said four premises in Kerala and Tamil Nadu were raided on April 13 and belonged to KGN Bullion owners Nandu alias Nandagopal, Sanju TM and his father-in-law Shamsudheen.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday said it has seized seven immovable properties worth Rs 1.13 crore and gold worth Rs 27.65 lakh following recent raids in connection with alleged smuggling of gold into Kerala through diplomatic baggage. .

The federal probe agency said four premises in Kerala and Tamil Nadu were raided on April 13 and belonged to KGN Bullion owners Nandu alias Nandagopal, Sanju TM and his father-in-law Shamsudheen.

The agency said, “The statement of Sanju TM was recorded, in which he admitted that he had purchased 4,500 grams of smuggled gold from Mohd Shafi (smuggler), which was later sold to end customers through his father-in-law’s shop.” Went.”

The ED, National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Customs are separately probing the racket busted on July 5 with the seizure of 30.24 kg gold, worth about Rs 15 crore, from the diplomatic baggage of the UAE consulate at Thiruvananthapuram airport . , 2020.

The ED had arrested prime accused Swapna Suresh and former employees of the UAE consulate in Kerala, Sarith PS and Sandeep Nair, besides an IAS officer and former principal secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, M Sivasankar, in the case.

The agency filed a chargesheet against him under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), following which a supplementary prosecution complaint was also filed.
