Bengaluru: BSP MLA expelled after months of procrastination N Mahesh From fellow employee (Chamarajanagar district) officially joined BJP on Thursday.
The joining of Mahesh means that the BJP now has an increase of 120 MLAs in the House.
in spite of much fanfare covid-19 restrictionsMahesh joined the party in the presence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, State President of the party. Nalin Kumar Kateel, Former CM and BJP Patron BS Yediyurappa and his son, the party’s state vice president BY Vijayendra.
Mahesh, who was part of a wider alliance with the JD(S) and Congress in 2018-19 and a minister in the HD Kumaraswamy government, was expelled from the BSP in 2019.
Despite BSP national president Mayawati’s order to vote for the Kumaraswamy rule, she skipped the trust vote against the Kumaraswamy coalition rule.
Since then, Mahesh has been drawing closer to the BJP and is regarded as an “asset” by the saffron party which is trying to build a cadre base in south Karnataka.
Speaking at the joining event, CM Bommai said that Mahesh joining the BJP will help the party build a cadre base among Dalits and backward classes in the south of Karnataka.
Asked if the MLAs from Chamarajanagar would join his cabinet, Bommai said: “Not yet.”
Talking to media channels, Mahesh said that he is confident that the BJP is working towards the upliftment of Dalits and he is confident that there is a space available for him to build the BJP in the old Mysore region.
