Fake call center cheated US citizens of Rs 10 crore, 32 arrested Noida News – Times of India

Noida: Police in Uttar Pradesh Greater Noida 32 people have been arrested from the fake call center who allegedly cheated American citizen The officials gave this information on Thursday on the pretext of fixing computer virus.
As per official estimates, the estimated amount of money collected by call centers from US citizens so far is over Rs 10 crore.
Based on a tip-off, the police raided the call center and arrested 32 people who were found working on the spot. Those arrested include people living in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Gurgaon.
The call center was running from the special economic zone for the last one year (SEZ) in Bisrakh area, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Ankur Agarwal said.
“A total of 32 people have been arrested from the call centers duping US citizens. The accused used to interact with US citizens on the internet and send bugs in their computer systems but used to scare them by saying that their system had virus.” he said.
“The accused would then offer them a solution to remove the virus and ask the target to transfer money for the service being provided by them. The accused would then simply remove the bug created by them,” the officer said. he said.
The accused will demand US$1,000 (approximately Rs 74,000 as of Thursday’s exchange rate) in return for their “service”. DCP Agarwal told reporters.
“The call centers made profit of up to USD 4,000 per night and they were operational for almost a year, as per information received from the accused during interrogation. The fraud amounted to crores of rupees,” he said. That the employees working on call were paid Rs 20,000 per month while the manager used to get Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh monthly.
He said that about 15 to 20 more people, including the mastermind of this fraud, have been identified and their search and arrest is on.
One FIR Police said a case has been registered at Bisrakh police station under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Information Technology Act.
He said police seized 50 computers and related equipment from call centers where people worked overnight to match normal working hours in the US.
