Jharkhand: Governor Ramesh Bais rushes to Delhi, JMM calls him ‘BJP toolkit’ | Ranchi News – Times of India

RANCHI: Amid the political turmoil in Ranchi over the office-of-profit case against chief minister Hemant Soren, Jharkhand governor Ramesh Bais on Friday, hurriedly left for New Delhi, triggering widespread protest from the JMM-led coalition government.
While Raj Bhavan was mum on the visit and entered the trip as ‘personal’ in official records, sources in Raj Bhavan confirmed that the governor would visit All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for a health check-up and later meet union home minister Amit Shah. After meeting a UPA delegation of four Parliamentarians and office bearers of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti MorchaCongress-RJD alliance in Raj Bhawan on Thursday, governor Bais had said he would forward his opinion to the EC within four days and also seek legal opinion on observations made by the EC against Soren for obtaining a mining lease in Ranchi in 2020. JMM on Friday mounted pressure on governor Ramesh Bais for his trip to Delhi and urged him to not become a “tool” of the BJP’s political design. “One of our country’s foremost lawyers came to Ranchi on August 25 and returned the same day. We fail to understand whom he needs to consult more after having met reputed lawyers here,”
JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya claimed, adding: “We met him yesterday at Raj Bhavan and he assured us that he will take a stand within a few days. But today, he suddenly travelled to New Delhi. It seems he went to meet home minister Amit Shah and the BJP’s national leadership to seek their opinion,” Bhattacharya said. in Ranchi over the office-of-profit case against chief minister Hemant Soren, Jharkhand governor Ramesh Bais on Friday, hurriedly left for New Delhi, triggering widespread protest from the JMM-led coalition government. The JMM leader claimed that the BJP-led Union government has converted central agencies such as ED and the CBI as its tools. “Now, there is a new toolkit in the form of the Election Commission. We have our apprehensions that the governor may function as another toolkit too,” Bhattacharya said. He said that the office-ofprofit case was the latest effort to disrupt the state’s governance and a desperate attempt to halt the good work which is being done by the government. “Now that we have started to deliver on our promises, the BJP has come down to its evil designs.
Hemant Soren had become the chief minister in 2013 as well, but why was this issue (mining lease) not brought up then?” Bhattacharya questioned. Hours later, chief minister Hemant Soren called a meeting of his ministers and officials of the department of agriculture and disaster management to assess the drought situation in the state. Soren extended a message to the public at large, that his government was busy considering issues of public importance.
At Jharkhand mantralaya, he chaired a meeting with cabinet colleagues, Banna Gupta, minister in-charge for health and disaster management and Badal Patralekh, the agriculture minister, to assess the drought situation in the state. The highlevel meeting was attended by a battery of senior IAS officers under chief secretary Sukhdev Singh. Having sought details of rain and crop coverage in different districts at the level of blocks from officials, the CM directed the departments to come up with a holistic plan for mitigating the ill-effects of drought like situation. He was informed that 131 blocks were partially drought affected, while 112 blocks were categorized as severely drought hit.
