Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren meets relatives of martyr judge of Dhanbad, assures justice

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday met the family members of Additional District and Sessions Judge Uttam Anand, who was allegedly murdered in Dhanbad.

The relatives of the district judge expressed satisfaction over the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death case. He also requested the Chief Minister to give job to the judge’s wife on compassionate appointment basis.

“The family members of late Justice Uttam Anand called on Chief Minister Shri @HemantSoren. The family expressed satisfaction over the high level investigation of the matter and the formation of the #SIT. The Chief Minister said that it is the priority of the government that the family gets justice,” the Chief Minister’s Office, Jharkhand tweeted in Hindi.

Dhanbad police have taken the auto driver Lakhan Verma and his accomplice Rahul Verma, both arrested in the case, on remand for five days.

This happened when both were produced in Dhanbad’s Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) residential court late on Thursday, which remanded them in custody.

Expressing serious concern over the law and order situation in Jharkhand, lawyers across the state abstained from work on Friday to protest the alleged crushing of a judge by a heavy auto-rickshaw and the killing of a lawyer earlier.

He also demanded the implementation of Advocate Protection Act in Jharkhand for the protection of advocates and their actions in discharging their professional duties.

The Jharkhand High Court has constituted an SIT to probe the murder of a district judge, who was run over by an auto-rickshaw during his morning walk on Wednesday.

The SIT headed by Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Sanjay Anand Lathkar is probing the case.

Taking suo motu cognizance of the death of the 49-year-old Dhanbad judge, the Supreme Court has sought a status report within a week from the Jharkhand Chief Secretary and the DGP on the investigation into the incident.
