JEE Main 2023: In a First, 30% Female Candidates Register For Exam

JEE Main 2023 Session 1 exam will be conducted on 24, 25, 29, 30, 31 and 1 February this year.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will start the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023 from Tuesday. As per the official schedule, JEE Main 2023 Session 1 exam will be conducted on January 24, 25, 29, 30, 31. , and February 1 this year.

JEE Main Session 1 will be conducted in 290 different centers located across the country and 18 cities outside India. According to a report in Times of India, this year a total of 8.6 lakh candidates have registered themselves for JEE Main 2023 January session. This has actually reduced by more than 6,000 candidates from the 2022 July session.

According to reports, the list continues to be dominated by male candidates who number 6 lakh or nearly 70 per cent of the registered candidates. For the first time, women account for more than 30 per cent of the candidates. The increase in numbers is marginal compared to the previous year, which ranged between 2.5 lakh to 2.6 lakh.

The reports further suggest that this time the percentage of general candidates has come down from 41.8 per cent to 38.3 per cent category-wise as compared to last year. Additionally, the percentage of candidates for the OBC category has increased from 35.7 per cent to 37.1 per cent. For the General-Economically Weaker Section (GEN-EWS) category too, the figures have increased from 9 per cent to 11.6 per cent.

Maharashtra leads with the maximum number of candidates at 1,03,039 or about 12 per cent. It is followed by Uttar Pradesh at 99,714 (with 11.6 percent) and Andhra Pradesh at 91,799 (with 10.6 percent). Meanwhile, more than 50,000 registrations have taken place in Telangana and Rajasthan this year, which are 86,840 and 59,641 respectively.

Among cities, the national capital – Delhi – leads with 36,530 candidates, followed by Hyderabad/Secunderabad with 32,246 and Kota with 24,253 candidates, reports TOI.

JEE Main Session 1 exam will be conducted in 13 languages ​​including English, Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada, Assamese, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The Computer Based Multiple Choice Examination will be conducted in two sessions every day.

Paper 1 of JEE is for B.Tech/BE courses, Paper 2 is for Bachelor of Architecture, and Paper 3 is for Bachelor of Planning programme. The second session of JEE (Main) will be held from April 6 to 12 this year.
