Telugu actor Sunil has been cast in back-to-back Tamil films of late. After Jailer, the actor is now gearing up for Vishal and SJ Suryah’s next, Mark Antony. The film is helmed by Adhik Ravichandran and is touted to be an action entertainer. Vishal shared a poster of the actor on Twitter, which read: “Welcome on board”. Sunil can be seen in a strong avatar. The caption read, “Delighted to welcome Sunil Garu on board for Mark Antony.”
Vishal is going to be seen in the role of a gangster in this explosive action film. Speaking with ETimes during the announcement of the project, the director said that the film is set in a particular period in Madras, and Vishal’s character is based on a real-life gangster of that time. “The story is actually set in the 1960s. That’s when the gangster culture started in Madras. Till then, if someone was plotting to kill another person, they would bring people from Burma or Mumbai. But in the ’60s, the people who were here encouraged the growth of rowdy gangs, which became the culture here.”
Recently, Sun Pictures unveiled the look of Sunil’s character in Rajinikanth’s Jailer. In the poster, the actor is seen in keikogi, a traditional outfit worn during training in martial arts. The makers have kept a secret whether Sunil is playing a serious or comic role in the film.
The release date of the film directed by Nelson Dilip Kumar has been postponed as the shooting of Jailor is yet to wrap up due to the busy schedules of the lead actors. The makers are now planning to release the film on August 11 this year.
Sunil started his journey in the entertainment industry as a comedian in Telugu films and went on to play lead roles in films such as Andala Ramudu and SS Rajamouli’s comedian Maryada Ramanna. He also played a negative role in the 2020 film Color Photo and then in the Allu Arjun starrer pan-India hit Pushpa: The Rise.
