New Delhi: TASS quoted local media as saying that at least 10 guards were injured in a bomb-laden drone attack on Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s residence early Sunday.

The attack damaged a building in the heavily guarded Green Zone in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, Al Hadath television reports.

Al Arabiya TV channel reported earlier in the day that the prime minister was hospitalized with minor injuries after his residence was attacked by a bomb-laden unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

TASS further informed that the Prime Minister was taken to a safe place.

According to the publication, security measures have been increased at all entrances to the green zone, where foreign embassies and government buildings are located, following the attack.

Al Hadath quoted an Iraqi military statement as saying the situation in the area was “stable and under control”.

The US strongly condemned the attack and offered all possible help to Iraq in its investigation.

“We are relieved to learn that the prime minister is not harmed,” US State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.
