IPL Media Rights Auction: TV Rights Sold For Rs 57.5 Crore, Digital Rights For Rs 48 Crore – Reports

After two days of intense bidding hours, the control board Cricket In India (BCCI) has reportedly identified a winner for the Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights for the 2023-27 cycle. According to reports, television rights have been sold for Rs 57.5 crore (per match) and digital rights for Rs 48 crore (per match). However, there is no official word from the Governing Council or the Cricket Board of India and the name of the winner has not been disclosed.

It is also learned that the winner of the TV rights has been confirmed but there is still uncertainty about the winner for digital. As per the rules of the auction, the TV winner has the right to challenge the highest bid digital. Therefore, if both the bidders are different then re-bid can be done.

Earlier on Sunday, news agency PTI had reported that the auction saw a strong bidding for the TV and digital rights of the Indian subcontinent, with the cash-rich league valuing over Rs 100 crore per match.

With the bidding on the second day, the cumulative valuation of media rights could well approach Rs 50,000 crore, which would be the biggest in terms of global rights in any sport.

Four of the seven players in the fray, Viacom18, Disney-Star, Sony and Zee, were involved in an almost seven-hour slugfest, marking the cumulative upward move of Package A (India TV Rights) and Package B (India Digital Rights). was inconclusive. 42,000 crore (about USD 5.37 billion) and still counting.

Who are the current bidders?

According to reports, Amazon pulled out of the auction race, leaving the fray for its rivals, including The Walt Disney Company, Disney-Star owner and Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd through Viacom18/Reliance .
