CSK decided to remain unchanged despite their defeat in their previous match against Rajasthan Royals.

Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. Punjab Kings’ Shikhar Dhawan failed to make the right call on the flip of the coin as Dhoni won the toss at home ground as he immediately decided to bat first as it is a one day game and heat could be a big factor in Chennai.

Fans have once again turned up in large numbers to support Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk as it will be difficult for Punjab Kings to break MS Dhoni’s fort.

CSK decided to remain unchanged despite their defeat in their previous match against Rajasthan Royals. He included Ambati Rayudu in the playing XI who came in as an impact player during the chase during the previous match.

Dhoni said that the heat was a big factor behind his decision to bat first as he wanted his bowlers to get some rest.

“We will bat first. Looks like a good wicket. When you play a one-day game, the heat is a factor. The fast bowlers can get a little rest. In the day game, some players are too quick. It’s important to be sensible. Shouldn’t be exposed too much under the sun. IPL is a long tournament. There will be games that don’t go in your favour. You have to accept the learnings. It’s the same team,” Dhoni said at the toss.

Meanwhile, PBKS skipper Dhawan admitted that he too was looking forward to bat first on a dry wicket.

“We would have liked to bat first. It’s a day’s play and a dry wicket. There will be no dew. A new and a fresh start. We keep learning from the previous games. Strive to be better. Keep fighting spirit. In the last match, I tried something but obviously it didn’t work. The core is intact. Will walk with positive thinking. Harpreet is the only change,” said Dhawan.
