The mega auction of IPL will reportedly take place on February 12 and 13 next year in Bengaluru. The ten franchises were informed separately by the BCCI about the auction schedule, but the two-day schedule is set to coincide with the India-West Indies ODI as well.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, BCCI officials have assured the franchises that international matches involving India will not affect the auction and both the events will be separate.

“It has been made clear to us that the match and the auction are two different things and both will proceed,” the website quoted an unnamed franchise official as saying.

The pre-auction briefing will take place on February 11, a day before the auction, in which the franchisees will be asked to be present in Bengaluru. The board has set January 17 as the deadline to send the names of players who have nominated for the auction by writing to their various counterparts across the world.

With the coronavirus cases rising again, there are concerns over the IPL 2022 holding in India and the third wave is in danger of getting bigger.

When asked if there is any plan B with regard to shifting the season to UAE, news agency ANI quoted a BCCI source as saying, “It is too early to comment on it.”

The IPL will expand to 10 teams in the next season, with two new franchises from Lucknow and Ahmedabad joining the circus.

RPSG Group won the bid for the Lucknow franchise while CVC Capital will own the Ahmedabad-based team.

The eight existing franchises were earlier asked to confirm the list of players they want to retain with an upper limit of four players.
