Gujarat Titans on Wednesday signed Afghanistan wicket-keeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). England batsman Jason Roy has been signed up as a replacement, who was ruled out of the tournament earlier.
Roy withdrew from the tournament last week citing bio-bubble fatigue. He was signed by Gujarat Titans in the mega auction for his base price of Rs 2 crore.
Vikram Solanki, Director of Cricket, Gujarat Titans said, “While it is disappointing that Jason will not be a part of our campaign this year, we are mindful of the health and well-being of the players at this time. We wish Jason well and the field. But look forward to his return.”

“Rehmanullah Gurbaz is one of the promising young batsmen to emerge from Afghanistan and we believe he is a perfect replacement for Jason. Gurbaaz is an aggressive batsman and fits into our plan for Gujarat Titans. He has given a good account of his talent in international cricket and some tournaments around the world.
Gurbaz, a right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper, represented Afghanistan in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. Since his senior international debut in 2019, he has played nine One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 20 T20 Internationals so far. In 2021, Gurbaz became the first Afghan batsman to score a century on ODI debut – a feat he achieved against Ireland in Abu Dhabi. The 20-year-old joined the Gujarat Titans team along with his countrymen Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed.
