Indian women’s hockey team head coach Sord Marin said anything less than the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics would be a huge disappointment.

Indian women’s hockey team head coach Sord Marijne is hopeful that her children will make it to the quarter-finals of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics and says anything less will be a big disappointment. The team will compete in its second consecutive Olympics in Tokyo after qualifying for the Games after a 36-year hiatus for the Rio Games. India’s best ever performance at the Summer Games was a fourth-place finish at the 1980 Moscow Games and Marin believes players in the current team have the ability to play to their strengths.
“Expectations are very high in India. If you are realistic, there are only two countries below us and that is Japan and South Africa. So, I don’t know where these expectations are based.
“I think maybe because we have done well in the last four years, but still we have to be realistic. We are focused on reaching the quarter-finals and it is realistic and anything can happen from there, Marijne said at a virtual media conference.
The Dutch coach said that if they fail to reach the quarter-finals, it will be a big disappointment for the players who have made a lot of sacrifices to make their dreams come true in these difficult times.
“…But the most important thing for me is our performance and I know it’s easy. I just want to see this team reach its potential and my job is to help the team reach its potential.
“I am happy even if we play every pool match to the best of our ability and fail to reach the quarters. But I think playing to our potential will help us reach the quarter-finals and more.”
