Uttar Pradesh: 2-year-old girl gets Covaxin jab amid trials of vaccine for children

Kanpur Dehat: During the ongoing trial of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin on children, a two-year-old and eight-month-old girl has been vaccinated against Kovid in Kanpur countryside.

The girl is the daughter of a doctor from Kanpur Dehat.

A spokesperson of Prakhar Hospital, where the girl was vaccinated, said on Thursday that about five children, including three girls and two boys, aged 2-6 years, were vaccinated at the Kanpur hospital.

The spokesman said the children were kept under observation for two hours before going home.

The safety profile of the children who have been vaccinated will be prepared.

In May, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) had given permission to Bharat Biotech to start a phase 2-3 trial of Covaxin on children below the age of two years.

Several hospitals including AIIMS Delhi and Patna have also started testing Covaxin on children.
