After posting 218/5, RCB had to ensure CSK did not go past 200 to go ahead of CSK on net run rate and an all-round bowling effort from the Faf du Plessis side did the job for the home team as CSK were restricted to 191/7.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Virat Kohli and du Plessis set the foundation for RCB with a 78-run stand for the opening wicket in 9.4 overs. There are brief stoppage in play due to rain after 2 overs, but no overs were lost during the 45-minute break. However, after the delay, the run-scoring was tricky, but Kohli and du Plessis rode out the tough period. Rajat Patidar (41 off 23), Cameron Green (38 off 17) kept the momentum going in the middle overs with a 71-run stand for the third wicket. Glenn Maxwell (16 off 5) and Dinesh Karthik (14 off 6) then provided the finish powering RCB past the 200-run mark.
In the chase, CSK got off to the worst possible start losing skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad for a first-ball duck to Glenn Maxwell followed by another quick wicket of Daryl Mitchell for 4. But, Rachin Ravindra (61) and Ajinkya Rahane (33) kept SK alive in the chase before Rahane’s wicket opened the floodgates. Lokie Ferguson had Rahane caught off the first ball and in the next 3 overs, CSK went on to lose Ravindra (run-out) and Dube (7). Mitchell Santner was sent packing for 3 by a du Plessis stunner – the best catch of the tournament.
At 129/6 in 15, CSK seemed down and out but Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni pushed RCB to the hilt with a stand of 61 runs, but CSK eventually fell short of the 200-run mark by 9 runs. They went on to lose the match by 27 runs
