In a major operation carried out by Indian Railways, officials including Kharagpur’s Divisional Railway Manager, Security Chief, Signal Chief, Commercial Manager were evacuated from Kharagpur area days after the Odisha train accident.

On 6 June, the CBI took over the investigation of the train accident that had killed 292 people and involved three trains. The central government had claimed that sabotage could lead to fatal accidents.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Odisha is probing the triple train accident that claimed over 292 lives and injured hundreds, Soro Section Signal Junior Engineer – identified as Aamir Khan – who Went missing with family.

The officials took him to his residence and started questioning him in Balasore on Tuesday.

The development comes a day after his house was reportedly sealed by the CBI.

Earlier, the CBI had sealed the rented house of the junior engineer, who had reportedly gone missing along with his family members after the fatal accident near Bahnaga railway station on June 2.

Media reports said the central probe team left Balasore on June 16 after conducting an investigation at the accident site, but officials returned on Monday and sealed JE’s house.

The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Super Fast Express and a freight train were involved in the accident, which is now being described as one of India’s worst train accidents.

The Coromandel Express collided with a stationary goods train near Bahanaga Bazar station on 2 June around 7 pm, derailing most of its coaches.

Some coaches of the Coromandel Express hit the last few coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Express, which was passing at the same time.
