India on Wednesday, October 27 successfully test-fired its nuclear capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile Agni-5, which can hit targets at a distance of 5,000 km from APJ Abdul Kalam Island.
“The missile, which uses a three-stage solid-fuel engine, is capable of hitting targets at ranges up to 5,000 km with very high accuracy,” the defense ministry said in a statement.
The successful test-fire of Agni-5 is in line with India’s stated policy of “reliable minimum deterrence”, which underlines its commitment to “no first use”.
