Mohammed Shami led India’s comeback after being dominated by the Australian batsmen in the fourth Test against Australia. Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Shami picked up two wickets on the first day to prevent the visitors from running away with the contest as he first bowled Marnus Labuschagne and later blasted Peter Handscomb’s stumps.

Rohit Sharma’s men managed to pick up two wickets in the first session but Australia dominated the second session in the form of Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith to take control of the game.

For the first time in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, not a single wicket fell in the second session as the visitors posted a total of 149/2 till tea on the scoreboard.

However, in the third session, India managed to break the Khawaja-Smith partnership as Ravindra Jadeja removed the Australian skipper following a handscomb blow from Shami.

The Indian pacer was rested for the third Test and looked out of touch by bowling a few wides before the new ball, although Shami was able to redeem himself and gave India crucial breakthroughs on a few occasions.

The second wicket, in particular, was very impressive and displayed the real class of Mohammed Shami who sent the Australian batsman cartwheeling off-stump.

The incident happened in the 71st over of Australia’s innings, Shami bowled a full length delivery which went inside Handcomb’s attempt to save the ball.

Earlier, Smith won the toss and elected to bat as Khawaja and Travis Head got the visitors off to a steady start. Ravichandran Ashwin shared a 61-run partnership before India drew first blood.

Shami then dismissed Marnus and after a tough second session, Jadeja and Shami ensured India were on top again in the fourth Test.
