Earlier, Rohit Sharma had said that despite being sidelined as captain, he has not given up on the shortest format.
“First of all, it is not possible to play back-to-back matches. You need to give them (all formats players) enough breaks. I too definitely fall into that. We have three T20 Internationals against New Zealand. We will see what happens after IPL. I haven’t decided to give up the format,” Rohit told media persons on the eve of the first ODI against Sri Lanka.

“At the moment I think it has been made clear in the past that this is a 50-over World Cup year for us. And it is not possible for some people to play all formats,” Rohit replied to a question from PTI on Tuesday on the eve of the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
Rohit said that due to the workload management of some senior players, the new-look team played the T20 match against Sri Lanka.
“If you look at the schedule, there were back-to-back matches, so we decided looking at the workload of some of the players, we want to make sure they get enough break time and manage that. I also fall into that (category),” Rohit said.
