Kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal was shot dead by some unidentified assailants during a kabaddi tournament in Mallian Khurd village of Jalandhar on Monday.

The incident was captured on video and is now being widely circulated on social media. In the video some people are seen firing at him. Soon after, there was a commotion during the tournament, and people were seen running. The incident took place when a kabaddi tournament was going on in Mallian Kalan village of Shahkot.

Jalandhar (Rural) Deputy Superintendent of Police (Nakodar) Lakhwinder Singh said the 40-year-old player was a resident of Nangal Ambian village in Shahkot. But he had settled in England with his family. Sandeep used to organize kabaddi tournaments.

Police said that when Sandeep came out of the tournament venue, four unidentified assailants opened fire on him. Police suspect that eight to 10 bullets were fired at the kabaddi player. The Deputy Superintendent of Police said that 10 empty shells of bullets were found from the spot. After being shot, Sandeep was rushed to a hospital in Nakodar where he was declared brought dead, police said.

Police said that further investigation is on.
