In Separate Cases, 2 Posing As Cops Steal Jewellery Worth 5l | Thane News – Times of India

Thane: In separate incidents, two accused impersonated policemen and stole gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh from two victims in Mumbra and Daighar area.
The first incident occurred in the Shilphata area on Monday. The victim, a 67-year-old woman, a Powai resident, was in a cab heading towards Ambernath. When the cab came near Shilphata chowk, two persons signalled them to stop the car. The duo identified themselves as policemen and even showed fake ID cards . They asked the victim to not wear any jewellery as there were crime occurring in the vicinity. They asked the victim to take off her jewellery so as to not invite an trouble, informed police.
“The victim under duress removed her ornaments and wrapped it in paper. The duo pretended to help her keep it and instead tricked her by exchanging the jewellery with another similar wrapped paper and went away. Later, when the victim opened the paper she found that it had been exchanged. She registered a case of cheating with the Daighar police station,” said a police officer.
In the second incident, another victim aged 52 , a resident of Dombivli was riding on a his bike from Dombivli to Chitalsar. He was intercepted by the accused on the Mumbra bypass road. The fake cops signalled him to stop and told him that many untoward crime had taken place on the stretch and that he should take off his gold chain and gold ring and keep it in paper. “The accused pretended to help him and replaced the original wrapped ornaments with a similarly wrapped paper and went away from the spot,” informed a police officer.
The police said that they have registered a case against the accused duo at Shil-Daighar police and Mumbra police station respectively and launched the probe into both the cases.
