NOIDA: The project manager of Edifice Engineering, the company responsible for bringing down the twin towers, urged residents of nearby societies not to worry about the demolition, saying the “best team” was on the job.
“I understand the concern of the people here. But I would like to give them a message, ‘please don’t be afraid’. The best team in the world is working on the project,” said Jigar Chedda, the project manager at Edifice.
“The Noida Authority has issued guidelines for the neighbourhood people. They are very clear about what the people have to do, when they need to vacate their flats and return. We are taking all precautions and the nearby societies are aware of everything,” he added.
Chedda also stressed there would be no damage to the underground GAIL pipeline near the twin towers. “The GAIL pipeline is designed in keeping with Richter scale 4 in the area. It is already 3 metres under the ground. We have already installed plates and created bumps over it. So, there will be no damage to the pipeline,” he said.
Chedda described the twin towers’ demolition as “technically more challenging” than other explosions the company had carried out in Kochi, Ranchi and Indore. “We will go as per the plan,” he said.
Earlier on Friday, DCP (central Noida) Rajesh S had said that over 400 civil police personnel would be deployed around the twin towers along with eight ambulances and four fire tenders.
The DCP had also mentioned that several beds were reserved in as many as three hospitals for contingency and a green corridor would be created if required.
Chetan Dutta, a blaster from Hisar with over 20 years’ experience, will press the final button that will set off the explosives. Dutta dubbed the exercise a “simple process”.
“We’ll be almost 50-70 metres away from the buildings. There will be no danger and we are very much sure that the towers will collapse in a proper way…. The blasting area is covered with four layers of iron mesh and two layers of blanket. So, no rubble will fly past but dust may,” Dutta had said. ANI
