If voted to power, will make Gairsain the permanent capital of Uttarakhand: Congress

The Uttarakhand Congress on Wednesday promised that Gairsain would be made the state’s permanent capital if voted to power in the next assembly elections. “If we come to power, first of all we will declare Gairsain as the permanent capital of Uttarakhand. We are going to the upcoming elections with this resolve,” PCC spokesperson Garima Dasouni said at a press conference here. Claiming that the Congress party would form the next government in the state with over 40 MLAs, he said that declaring Gairsain as the permanent capital and repeal of the Devasthanam Board Act would be on top of its agenda. He said, “Gairsain represents the sentiments of the agitators of the state. The previous Congress government had constructed an assembly building there besides carrying out infrastructural expansion work to honor those sentiments. We in the first Act decided to transfer temporary capital from Gairsain. Will remove the tag too. Coming to power,” he said.

Arguing that the two capitals (one in Dehradun and the other in Gairsain) were not economical, he said making Gairsain the permanent capital of Uttarakhand would save taxpayers money.
