Rasika Duggal’s short film ‘Khay’ to be screened at Bandra Film Festival

Rasika Duggal’s debut short film ‘Khay’ will be screened at the Bandra Film Festival this week. The actress recalled the day she shot for the film. The 1 hour 32 minute indie film revolves around Chhaya (Rasika Duggal) who becomes obsessed with a white idol of Goddess Lakshmi and wants to get it at any cost. Her husband, who is struggling to meet his needs, agrees to get it when he has money. However, soon, his desire takes an obsessive turn leading to disastrous consequences.

Rasika said, “I am very happy with the love this film has received over the years. Akshay was shot on a lavish budget over the weekend with a four-member crew. We decided to set on Karan’s (Karan Gaur director) bike. We did our own make-up and finally dubbed the film at midnight in a two-bedroom house to escape the traffic noise.”

He further added, “Khaaye was my first film in the lead role and the experience of being shadowed in a character based script was a treat for an actor. Along with Akshay, I received appreciation for my performance from critics in different parts of the world when the film traveled to film festivals and even on release in India. It was very encouraging to get my work reviewed like this. It made me believe that there is a payoff for brave decisions, hard work and believing in what you are doing Others did not. I am glad that the film is a part of this film festival and I hope more people know about it through BFF’s platform.”

Apart from ‘Khay’, the line-up which is slated to release on October 4 also includes two more films – ‘Khaynika’ and ‘Nach Ganesh’.

‘Khayanika’, directed by Amartya Bhattacharya, is a fictional story of two men, a poet and a painter, who claim to capture the same idea, portrayed as a wonderland in a rural setup. It stars Amartya Bhattacharya, Chaudhary Jaiprakash Das and Chaitali Gharmi.

Next titled ‘Nach Ganesh’, a short play directed by Bikash Mishra, tells the story of a tribal dancer who has to choose between surviving and preserving his family tradition of ritual Ganesha dance. The film also stars Hemant Mahto, Agnu Kumar and Balram Mahto.

Bandra Film Festival (BFF) is a digital film festival presented by Filmcaravan in association with YouTube, which aims to provide a solid platform that helps lesser known films and filmmakers to reach a wider audience virtually.
