A long distance run,’Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon‘, organized by the Congress in UP’s Bareilly as part of the party’s “Women can fight” campaign for elections on Tuesday, witnessed a stampede of sorts. Another shocking highlight of the event were the marathon participants – hundreds of women and teenage girls – most of whom were without masks.
As the coronavirus threat and fast-spreading ommicron version of the elections looms large, the state election commission has said it will not allow large political rallies or road shows and will allow small teams of five political activists, including a candidate, to go to the door – Two-door campaign.
Keeping in view the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in West Bengal, the new guidelines announced last week also put restrictions on the number of people allowed in a campaign meeting of a political party from 8 pm to 9 am. By noon, various forms of propaganda were banned.
The SEC statement said a meeting of a political party held in a convention hall would be allowed a maximum of 200 persons, or 50 percent of the hall’s seating capacity. The State Election Commission said that if permission is given for a public meeting already, then permission is given as per the revised guidelines of the commission.
