Hyundai i20 Hatchback Prices Increased In India, Gets Second Hike In One Month

Hyundai India is following the industry trend and has now revised the price of Hyundai i20 hatchback. This is the second price hike for the model since the previous hike last month. As per reports, the price of the car has been increased by 6 per cent, taking it to Rs 7.47 lakh (ex-showroom). With the previous price hike, the base variant of the hatchback got a price hike of up to Rs 15,900.

Changes have been made in the pricing of the vehicle to deal with the input cost due to the changes required in the car to comply with the new emission norms. Apart from the price hike, the South Korean automaker had also discontinued the diesel variant of the car. Currently, the company only sells the petrol engine variant of the car complying with the BS-VI Stage 2 emission norms.

Hyundai offers two petrol engines for the i20: a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. The engines are currently in compliance with RDE and BS-VI Stage 2 norms. The 1.0-litre turbocharged engine could generate 118 bhp power and 172 Nm of peak torque, as compared to 82 bhp and 115 Nm of the 1.2-litre unit. The 1.2-litre variant offers a 5-speed manual and CVT transmission as options, while the turbocharged petrol model offers a 7-speed DCT.

Meanwhile, Hyundai has announced the name of its new subcompact SUV, codenamed ‘Exter’. With the launch of this SUV, the company is hoping to divide the market from cars like Tata Punch and Citroen C3.
