Historic Miami Beach hotspot Deauville Hotel begins demolition after closing in 2017 – Henry’s Club

The Historic But Dilapidated Miami Beach Hotel That Once Hosted It The Beatles The Ed Sullivan Show – which used to be the playground for celebrities like Frank Sinatra and President John F. Kennedy – has begun to face rubble since closing its doors in 2017.

Construction workers can be seen breaking down the front entrance of the Deauville Hotel and the famous metal red sign on Sunday.

A demolition permit was issued last week by Miami’s Department of Building and Zoning after owners of the 538-room resort – which opened in 1957 – submitted a report last December deeming it unsafe.

However, residents near the Collins Avenue Hotel in North Beach said the demolition work took them by surprise. City manager Alina Hudak issued a memo saying the hotel would need treatment for asbestos before it could be demolished.

City officials also ordered 10 days’ notice, which residents said they never received.
