IND vs SL, 2nd Test: Jasprit Bumrah’s opening strike puts India on top; Sri Lanka 28/1 at stumps

new Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah’s opening strike after setting a target of 447 for Sri Lanka took Team India to the top of the stumps on the second day of the India vs Sri Lanka and the second day of the night Test in Bengaluru on Sunday. Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah captured the show for India. At the end of Day 2’s play, Sri Lanka were 28/1 with Mendis (16*) and Karunaratne (10*) unbeaten at the crease.

Chasing a mammoth target of 447, Sri Lanka lost their first wicket without scoring a run as Bumrah hit a half-century in the first innings in the very first over of Sri Lanka’s second innings.

Iyer, who scored 92 in the first innings, scored 67 in the second innings. Wrecker-in-Chief Pant scored his 9th Test fifty off just 28 balls, the fastest by an Indian in Test cricket history. He broke 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev’s 40-year-old record of making the fastest fifty for India in Test cricket.

At dinner on the second day, a dominating session led by Rishabh Pant took India to 199/5 with a 342-run lead.

India won the toss and decided to bat first. The hosts were bundled out for just 252 runs on the first day. At one point, India’s batting order collapsed against the Lankan bowlers. Shreyas Iyer then played a brilliant innings of 92 runs to help his team post a respectable score.

On the second day, Jasprit Bumrah played a sensational 5-wicket haul to bowl out Sri Lanka for just 109 runs. After ending Day 1 on 86/6, Sri Lanka managed just 23 runs in the first session, with Bumrah and R Ashwin taking two wickets each for the loss of 4 wickets.
