HDFC Bank Denies Users Confidential Data Leaked, Now Customers Complain Of Phishing Activities

New Delhi: The latest data breach report which stated that personal information of over 6 lakh customers was exposed on the dark web has been refuted by HDFC Bank. According to a study by Privacy, hackers allegedly exposed personal data of around 6 lakh customers of HDFC Bank on a well-known forum of cybercriminals.

According to Privacy Report, on March 6, a well-known hacker forum claimed to have accessed a database allegedly linked to HDFC Bank. It said online thieves offered data samples, requesting payment for the entire database. According to the hacker, the consumer database has information from May 2022 to March 2023.

The hackers allegedly claimed to have private customer information including full name, date of birth, phone number, email address, physical address, employment details, credit score information, loan details and more.

Privacy Affairs also said that it had examined samples of the hacker forum and found that the information appeared to be authentic.

Customers on the official channel of HDFC Bank Cares, a private lender, have been commenting about strange action on their accounts, even as the bank disputed the data breach report. One consumer reported an account being hacked, and another claimed to have received a message from the bank asking him to visit a fake HDFC website.
