The protests against CAA intensified in December 2019. On this, Puri had said that CAA will not affect the secular credibility of the country. He also accused the opposition parties of spreading false information about the new law. Puri tweeted that the opposition parties are using the amended law to run an anti-government campaign, which includes spreading misinformation, uniting forces opposing India’s interests and inciting violence.

Evacuation of Indians from Kabul continues
At the same time, the process of evacuation of Indians from Kabul is going on. On Sunday, 390 people returned to India by three planes, of which 329 are Indians. The Air Force’s C-17 aircraft returned 168 people, including 107 Indians and 23 Afghan Sikhs and Hindus. Earlier, 87 Indians and 2 Nepalese were brought to India by Air India aircraft. Apart from this, 135 people have returned from another flight.

Afghan MP got emotional after reaching India
Afghan MPs Narendra Singh Khalsa, Anarkali Honrayar and their families are also included in the 168 people who came from the Air Force aircraft. On reaching India on Sunday, Narendra Singh Khalsa became emotional. He said that everything that had been built in 20 years was finished. At the same time, an Afghan woman said that the situation in Afghanistan is very bad, the Taliban burnt our house.

Two Indian planes will be able to fly everyday from Kabul Airport
The way for the return of Indians trapped in Afghanistan has become easier. India has got permission to operate two planes daily from Kabul Airport. US and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces have given its permission on Saturday. The Indian Foreign Ministry has said that now they will soon bring back all the Indians. Right now there is information about 300 Indians being trapped here.

What is CAA law?
When the CAA law was enacted in the country last year, it was opposed across the country. Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area was the focal point of the movement against this law. The law made the rules of citizenship law easier for migrants of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian religions from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Earlier it was necessary to stay in India for 11 years for citizenship, this time was reduced from 1 to 6 years.

This way the bill was passed by both the houses
On 11 December 2019, 125 votes were cast in the Rajya Sabha in favor of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 (CAB) and 99 against it. The next day on 12 December 2019, it got the assent of the President. The bill took the form of law after it was passed by both the houses amid huge protests across the country. It was introduced in Lok Sabha by Home Minister Amit Shah on 9 December. A few days ago, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in Parliament that the Home Ministry needs time till January 9, 2022 to make rules to implement the law.
